Message From Steve Carleton - Leader for This Summer's Kairos Angola Team

To My Kairos and active Christian friends on my email list: (More to be invited!) After a five year prayerful wait, the team formation schedule has been set for the restart of Kairos retreats at Angola! The first full three and a half day retreat is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, June 10 at 2:00 PM through Friday afternoon June 13 at 3 PM. 

We will be having four team formation meetings at First United Methodist Church-Baton Rouge, room 117. This room is right near the original rear entrance to the church with the covered driveway, right across from the church’s back parking lot. 

The team meeting schedule, with lunch, coffee, snacks, etc. provided is from 9 AM to 3 PM on these Saturdays: 

•  May 10 
•  May 17 (Off on May 24 for Memorial Day weekend.) 
•  May 31, and 
•  June 7 

 So far we have 23 team members, many veterans & many first timers, who have signed up for this important restart of this Kairos retreat. Please prayerfully consider joining us for what many of you already know will be a wonderful experience of renewal, forgiveness, and for some, initial baptism. 

 If you can free your schedule for this retreat and the team formation meetings, please fill out the attached team application form and return to me at my email address: scarleton@degan.com 

 As always, I look forward to praying, working, and sharing with many of you in preparing for this retreat. Even if you can’t make this retreat, your prayers, homemade cookies, and adult and children’s letters and agape are still needed from you and your church members. Dear Kairos Family

I hope this finds you and your family well in this Christmas season. 

If you would like to join us at Kairos inside Angola in 2025, you need to do your annual Department of Corrections training. 

Here are the 4 steps to complete your 2025 DOC training. This should be faster and more straightforward than watching the YouTube video or attending in-person training. 

1. Go to the DOC website at: https://doc.louisiana.gov/courses/prison-volunteer-orientation-training/ 

2. Create an account and do the DOC training for volunteers. 

This training includes 8 short sections to review. There is a simple quiz at the end of each section. 

In the second section, you will learn that you need to fill out then print and sign 4 documents. These are linked in that training section. 

After completing the training, you will receive a certificate. 

On the Volunteer Registration and Agreement, the Sponsoring Organization is Kairos Angola, the contact person is Michael Schultz and the Phone Number is 225-341-9817.

3. Scan (or photograph) the 4 signed documents and your valid picture ID.

4. Email those 5 things and an electronic copy of the certificate to the chaplain's office at Anna.McGhee@la.gov

If you are not confident, please send them to me at agmike98@gmail.com for review first. 

I told Anna our team was capable of filling out the documents completely and including all necessary documents on the first try. Please help me make this true.
